The fabulous day began with sailing the meltemi winds in the Aegean. We arrived ashore at Tinos after lunch to journey across the island. Upon landing, we learned about the “intangible” UNESCO World Heritage artform of dry stacking local schist and marble that made ancient agriculture possible in this arid climate and is now considered a lost artform. The impressing stacking continues to sculpt the mountainous landscape miles inland against the azure backdrop of the sea, all the way to the picturesque town of Pyrgos. There we visited the Marble Museum to learn about the tools and trade that made Tinos famous for centuries and enjoyed a golden hour stroll among little shops and incredible sculptures. Guests enjoyed vespers at the most holy pilgrimage church in all of Greece upon return to port, and then took a sunset stroll back to the water.
A fresh Mediterranean tuna dinner awaited us upon our return, and guests delighted in Head Chef Rajko carving the fish into sashimi and grilled fillets right before our eyes. We finished the day with the film, “Around Cape Horn”, a fascinating documentary explaining the lives of sailors on a square-rigger in the early 20th century.
