This morning we visited Punta Pitt on the northern part of the Chatham Islands. A huge tuff cone has eroded, exposing a brown sandy beach where crystalized minerals shine with the morning sun. We landed barefoot and, after drying our feet, we walked up a ravine to see endemic lava lizards, mockingbirds, and red-footed boobies. This spectacular scenery leads to a cliff where red-footed boobies nest in nolana bushes, a succulent plant endemic to this area. After the walk, we cooled ourselves by swimming in these pristine waters. We spent the afternoon in Cerro Brujo, a white sandy beach with gentle waves that was inviting to swim in. At sunset we navigated toward Kicker Rock, ending a spectacular day in paradise.
