Today we made our very first landing in Antarctica! Horseshoe Island is a rocky island in the east of Marguerite Bay. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey established a research station here in 1955. Not only were we able to visit the historic hut and explore the spectacular geology around the area, but weather conditions allowed us to kayak in the bay. We paddled around beautiful icebergs and impressive mountains covered by glaciers. We could not have hoped for better weather on our first outing in the Antarctic!
In the afternoon, we ship-cruised into the Gullet, the narrow strait that separates Adelaide Island from the Antarctic Continent. We enjoyed incredible views from the comfort of the ship.
