We awoke before the sun this morning as conditions were assessed, and it was decided to scrap plans B, C, and D! It was, as our intrepid Expedition Leader Shayne said, “A hard GO!” We had been on tenterhooks overnight, waiting to see if the wind forecast for the morning would hold. We were thrilled, as we determined the conditions were better than we could have hoped. It also seemed as if someone told the sea lions to be ready for us, as when we neared our entry-point to the snorkel drift, we were greeted by dozens of sea lion pups full of the kind of energy all puppies exhibit in their newness to the world.
As the first group of swimmers left the water, we were visited by a large aggregation of mobula rays! What a perfect end to a wonderful morning. Oh, that, and one of our chef’s legendary brunches put a fine cap on it.
This afternoon we docked in Pichilingue for a short trip into La Paz to experience an awe-inspiring demonstration of traditional Mexican dance before we went for dinner at one of La Paz’s world-renowned restaurants. Such a fine way to spend a day in Baja California Sur’s Gulf of California!
