At dawn’s first light, National Geographic Venture approached Land’s End, the iconic granite rock formation at the southern tip of the Baja California. The ship continued onward to San Jose del Cabo, where we went birdwatching in an estero (estuary), and visited the historic town. We watched a glass-blowing demonstration, enjoyed art galleries, visited the cathedral, photographed interesting scenes, and sampled the very delicious, locally made paletas (Mexican popsicles). Late in the afternoon, just a few miles off San Jose del Cabo, we went on deck to watch several very active humpback whales, before resuming our course toward islands in the Gulf of California.
