This morning, we began our day with a pre-dawn ox cart excursion in Kampong Tralach. A ride across the beautiful rice fields and scattered lotus flowers by ox-driven carts made for one of the riches moments we’ve had experiencing Cambodian culture thus far.
Then, dawn: The sun peeked over the horizon and the light was great for photography. It may not have been the most comfortable ride, but it was certainly a scenic one. After cruising through the rice fields, we were brought to a local school, where we had the opportunity to meet the teachers and students to learn about rural education in Cambodia. It was a fantastic experience!
En route to our next destination, we sailed much of the afternoon and had several selections of entertainment on board. Cultural expert David Brotherson spoke of the traditions of the Cambodian wedding, and we also had an engine room showing for those who wanted to see the inner workings of the ship. When we arrived at Koh Oakhnatey that afternoon, we boarded the local tuk-tuks and drove off to an incredible silk farm where we learned how they make products from silk. It was yet another lovely day aboard Jahan as we make our way closer to the Angkor Temples in just a few days!
