Mornings in Southeast Alaska are always a delight. The low-angled light piercing through the tendrils of clouds as they creep through the fjords and valleys is an enchanting sight. As we sailed into the harbor in the morning calm, sea otters and murrelets swam by.
For our morning activities, we explored Kuiu Island, bushwhacking through the massive trees of the temperate rainforest. Afterwards, the National Geographic Venture was our platform for exploration.
We found a group of at least sixteen co-operative bubble-net foraging humpback whales that put on an incredible show beside our vessel. These massive animals are a humbling sight. With great anticipation, we look forward to discovering what else awaits us in Southeast Alaska tomorrow.
