National Geographic Sea Lion anchors up in the shallow waters outside of Haines, Alaska for a day in town. Stretch class readies the early risers for one of many activities in the area. After a filling breakfast, the Zodiacs deliver guests to shore where they file onto buses that take them hiking, rafting or fly fishing for the morning. Local Alaskan guides help fly fishers hook a fresh silver salmon while rafters gently float past brown bears and bald eagles. For hikers, the trek to the top of Mt. Riley offers tremendous views of the surrounding Sitka spruce-covered fjord.
After lunch, guests venture out once again to explore the town of Haines. Some of them visit the Hammer Museum downtown, and others opt to shop around the local stores and bookshops for souvenirs or guidebooks. Local artists are plentiful, and art shops are found on every corner of the town. After a full day of activities wraps up, guests make their way back to the ship. National Geographic Sea Lion weighs anchor and departs for tomorrow’s adventure.
