A wonderful view of Mt Hood, highest peak in the northern Oregon Cascade Range, greeted us as we exited The Dalles Dam and Lock. We proceeded on with a superb presentation and slide show of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
We spent the afternoon cruising the Columbia, and then disembarked to take a hike in the McNary Wildlife Area. Huge numbers of beautiful wood ducks as well as a raucous flock of sandhill cranes flew over. After dinner a number of us watched a film of early tugs and barges running rapids on the Columbia in the age before the dams.
