Magdalena Bay, Baja
It was an amazing day in Baja California, Mexico! Sunrise started our day at 6:44 a.m. as we entered La Entrada de la Bahia Magdalena. We cruised past mangroves as we watched for birds and whales. There were several sightings of egrets, herons, ibises, and flocks of sandpipers. Also, 16 mother and young whale pairs made appearances and even a coyote was spotted at la Florida. At 11:00 a.m. our local pilot Alejandro Camacho and his son Chapito came aboard to navigate the National Geographic Sea Bird smoothly through Hull Canal.
In the sunny afternoon we anchored at Los Tirtes and set off for shore to explore the dunes with the informative words of our witty naturalists. As the sun made its way down in the sky over the dunes, we gathered at our beach BBQ site for dinner, live music, and dancing. Our lovely band, los Coyotes, played as we danced and watched the sun disappear into the sand. The fading light silhouetted our star dancer and naturalist, Adrian Cerda, on the ridge of the nearby dune. It truly was a fantastic day!
