We began the first full day of our voyage with a guided tour of Culloden Battlefield. This site has an important place in the history of the United Kingdom, as Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite army were defeated here by the Duke of Cumberland in 1746. This was followed by a visit to Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age burial site consisting of tombs and standing stones.
We returned to the ship before lunch and enjoyed some of Scotland’s iconic sights from the bow after we ate. First, we passed the ruins of Urquhart Castle, then we enjoyed the experience of ascending the five locks at Fort Augustus. We docked and went ashore to explore the charming town of Fort Augustus, some of us opting for a photography walk and others for a longer hike. We look forward to another beautiful day of exploring tomorrow!
