Europe & British Isles
It has been a blustery day at sea as we make our way northwest towards the Azores, our final destination of the voyage. Despite the inclement weather, National Geographic Orion was full of lively energy as guests attended presentations throughout the day, and some took to the bridge to watch the big seas.
These days at sea are what make our voyages more than just a passage, but instead a journey and an experience to remember!
Growing up in Washington, Kelly has always felt connected to nature and the outdoors. With the Puget Sound and Cascade Range in her backyard, it came as no surprise that she decided to study environmental science, graduating from Santa Clara Universi...
Sometimes plan B is the best plan. A huge storm is hitting the archipelago, so we decided to spend more time exploring the amazing little island of Porto Santo, enjoying hiking and relaxing on the gold sand beaches bathed in sunshine. Without a doubt, this was one of the most beautiful days of our expedition and we were delighted to spend one more day in the Madeira Archipelago.
Our day in Madeira began with a plethora of options to explore this magnificent island! Some of us went on a thrilling hike through the lush levada and among the beautifully rich Laurisilva Forest. Others chose to sightsee, including a visit to the largest European viewpoint above the ocean, where the landscape unveils breathtaking views of valleys and cliffs. There was an adventurous, rugged 4x4 journey that took us across the island’s untamed terrain, offering panoramic vistas of its dramatic coastlines, terraced hills, and volcanic peaks. Madeira is known for its gastronomy therefore some of us ventured to the charming old town for a food tasting, savoring local delicacies like bolo do caco and espada fish. Exploring Madeira blends nature, culture, and the island's rich history, leaving one with unforgettable memories and a deep connection to Madeira’s wild beauty.
