Everyone was a little anxious for the Drake Passage on our way back to Ushuaia. Expedition Leader Jamie showed us the weather information, and Captain Heidi waited for just the right moment to leave the Antarctic Peninsula. National Geographic Resolution made her way between two storm systems.
The comfort and stability of the ship gave us the opportunity to enjoy the educational programming throughout the day and, as usual, all the wonderful food prepared by the hotel team. There were lectures in the Ice Lounge, including storytelling by National Geographic photographer Krista Rossow and a presentation about women in Antarctica by naturalist Eva.
At the daily recap, we got to see incredible video of the voyage’s final dive made by underwater specialists Christine and Adam at Danco Island. What an amazing opportunity to see what is happening under the surface, an entire ecosystem rarely visited and ripe for exploration and study. Who would have thought that this cold and harsh environment could be so colorful?
