After passing the 60th parallel this morning, we found ourselves officially in Antarctica!
We spent the morning learning about IAATO followed by a “decontamination party” to ensure that all our gear is clean, so we do not contaminate this pristine environment.
We were super excited to experience our first landing! We had an incredible expedition afternoon at Aitcho Islands where the gentoo and chinstrap penguin colonies had several new chicks.
Later in the evening, Captain Yuriy Tupikov welcomed us in the lounge. After dinner, the party began with our very own Spice Boyz and Girlz band! At midnight, we joyfully rang in the New Year!
