National Geographic Orion began its transit down to the Sub-Antarctic Islands of New Zealand today. We dropped off our pilot in the town of Bluff late last night and began sailing towards the Auckland Islands. In between the rolling ocean swells, we watched and photographed a number of exciting bird species, such as the white-capped albatross.
In the warm and cozy confines of National Geographic Orion, our naturalist staff gave a couple of enlightening talks, and our hotel team spoiled us with delicious food. All in all, it was a lovely day sailing south towards the many treasures that the Sub-Antarctic Islands have on offer for us.
