Last night, National Geographic Orion set sail from the port of Lavrio, near Athens, passed by the Temple of Poseidon for sunset, and continued overnight to our first stop in the Cyclades Islands, Antiparos. We had our first Zodiac cruise around Antiparos and the smaller nearby island of Despotiko, which has an ongoing archeological excavation revealing many ancient treasures.

Back onboard we enjoyed photography presentations from photo instructor Lisa Hornak and National Geographic expert Ralph Lee Hopkins as we sailed towards the neighboring Paros Island in search of the perfect cove for swimming. When we arrived, the bar and hotel team set up a tiki bar in the shallows and guests were able to enjoy their first swim in the Aegean Sea.

Back on board, we started our week in Greece with a beautiful captain’s welcome dinner. What an exceptional first day!
