This morning, Sea Cloud II navigated through the Zadar Channel, between the mainland of Croatia and Ugljan Island. Captain Whitaker considered this morning a great opportunity to display the ship’s sails. The impressive rigs and sails system made the ship look still more magnificent, and our expedition leader offered Zodiac tours to our guests as a photo safari around the bark. The combination of a calm and deep-blue sea, bright sun, beautiful limestone mountains on the islands and mainland, and the little Croatian towns in the distance made together a unique morning for excursions, photography, and admiration for the ship and the surroundings.
In the afternoon, Sea Cloud II docked at Zadar, one of the oldest towns in Croatia, for walks into the historic section. Three thousand years of construction, destruction, and re-construction by different civilizations can be seen in just 400 square meters of the city core. The oldest inhabitants, the Ligurians, were followed by Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Croatians, Ottomans, and Communists, all left traces of their presence in the city. Nowadays, Zadar is a paradise for good wines, food and coffee, and to learn about its glorious past.
