We started our expedition with skiff explorations before breakfast, looking for freshwater dolphins at the confluence of the two major rivers, Ucayali and Maranon, that make the great Amazon! There were many amazing sightings and certainly the river dolphins were among them. This morning, they seemed to be more playful than usual. They were forming groups and breaching all around us.
As we explored the forest in search of the iconic giant lily pads, we spotted a black-tailed trogon just a few feet away from us. To make this outing even more memorable, some ten yards away from the trogon was a pair of pygmy owls watching us from above. What an incredible day we had!
