The day began with our lovely staff presenting about the tundra and the Northwest Passage, as we headed towards our next destination of Ulukhaktok, a hamlet located in the Inuvik region of the Northwest Territories. After lunch, we were greeted by the people from the hamlet who prepared hikes and walks across town.
The cultural performance started with some Inuit games including the popular one-foot-high kick, muskox push, and various other games. These were followed by drum dances and Inuit singing by the elders of the community that provided some cultural interpretation on the function of the local and circumpolar Inuit customs. We were also treated with local folk music, ending with a communal choir singing Amazing Grace which concluded the cultural performance at the Ulukhaktoq High School. As we waited to return to National Geographic Resolution, the locals demonstrated an Ulu fillet technique on an Arctic char and a tasting of said fish as we prepared for our farewell to Ulukhaktoq.
