We woke as National Geographic Resolution navigated through Tysfjorden, one of the largest fjord systems in Northern Norway. We spent the morning getting to know each other whilst enjoying the ship’s facilities and the scenery before an early lunch. With bellies full, Zodiacs launched for the shore of Hellmobotn, ready to explore the land for the first time this voyage. The base of the fjord is dominated by coniferous woodland and ripping rivers, which sit within the towering glacially carved bay. Medium and long hikers enjoyed a leg stretch towards a waterfall as the latter continued onwards and upwards to a stunning overlook of the fjord. The short hikers enjoyed plenty of wildlife and arctic flowers around the small settlement, and all guests headed back to the ship full of smiles.

Not content with the day yet, the hotel team served hot wine after dinner as we enjoyed spectacular views of Trollfjorden from the deck. A steep and very narrow fjord that required the experience of the bridge team while navigating it. Next stop, Lofoten…
