Everything in the fjord lands of Alaska is shaped by ice. The valley walls are etched and polished by the passing of glaciers, and time. Vegetation is engulfed and reborn by the impact of gravity on this landscape – glacial advances eventually lost to the impact of a warming planet.

Life and death meet at the margins here. Harbor seals are born atop ephemeral platforms of ice, the same ice born to the sea by a retreating glacier.

Little of the landscape is jagged anymore. The ice has softened geology in its wake, yet few things are still or quiet or subtle beneath these walls. This place is magic. It is filled with geologic history, life and change. This is Tracy Arm, a true wilderness and today we were some of the deeply privileged to have completed passage into and out of this hallowed realm of ice.
