Santa Cruz Island has the largest human population in the archipelago and offers one of the best chances to see Galapagos giant tortoises. During the morning, we went to the tortoise breeding center, and afterwards local buses took us to the highlands to a family-owned farm.
After a short bus ride, we arrived at Aquelarre restaurant for lunch, and from there we headed towards another local farm, which is open to anybody who wanted to find Galapagos giant tortoises in the wild. This farm is located along the boundaries of the tortoise reserve, and while exploring the place we found several giant tortoises feeding, sleeping, walking and even a couple seeming ready to mate.
