How often do you get to go exploring under the Antarctic Circle? I knew we were that far south as my smart watch did not show any sunrise-sunset timings (the other option is that the watch was broken).
In the early morning, we visited Stonington. The island was home to the British Antarctic Survey Station E, which was the base of operations for many historic surveying missions on the Antarctic Peninsula in the 1940s. The base was operational until 1975.
In the evening, we visited Jenny Island, where elephant seals roamed the beach, together with some Weddell seals. Skuas nested in both landing sites, and we found some small chicks being fed by their parents.
