Meltemi winds were still blowing fiercely this morning. Although we hoped that the steep rocky walls of Kamares Bay might shelter us enough to drop anchor, Captain Pavel found conditions unacceptable for the ship and headed back out to sea. Looking for a second chance, we sailed to the southern tip of the island to see if the bay of Platys Gialos might offer some protection, and there we were able to secure an anchorage and use Zodiacs to get our guests swiftly ashore. The day was saved.

Small island buses brought us up and over the green and mountainous island to arrive at the stunning town of Kastro on the eastern coast, framed by the blue Aegean. Our group proceeded on a light walking tour of the whitewashed, winding interior alleyways of this “fortress” town. Many guests used independent time to hike down to the iconic chapel, “Church of the Seven Martyrs,” beautifully situated on a rocky promontory below the town.

Back on board, we enjoyed our final afternoon under sail as the ship headed for Piraeus. Guests celebrated the ship and our journey at the Farewell Cocktail and Dinner.
