On our fourth day of “Exploring Alaska’s Coastal Wilderness” we awoke in Security Bay, at the north end of Kuiu Island. Guests went ashore and alternated between kayaking along the coastline, and walking in the woods or along the shore. Some groups explored the animals within the intertidal zone, while others bushwhacked through thick forest.

In the afternoon, the ship cruised south to the mouth of Tebenkof Bay, while Eric Guth gave an engaging lecture about birds. Soon after, we encountered several groups of humpback whales feeding. On Zodiacs, groups of guests were able to witness the whales bubble-net feeding and breaching.

The day wrapped up in high spirits as Kayvon Malek gave a passionate talk about kelp.
