Santiago Island it is the fourth largest Island in Galapagos, and it has a rich human history. Over the past few centuries,
All of the people who passed through this area left behind their footprints on the islands, sometimes with terrible consequences. Thankfully, the Galapagos National Park has run several initiatives over the last decades in an effort to restore these islands by removing all of the introduced invasive species that were brought here by humans, such as pigs, goats, and dogs. It is amazing to explore this island now and to see the positive impact in such a short period of time. Soon we will have giant tortoises roaming wild on the island again.
