Today we had close encounters with land iguanas under the equatorial sun. We walked through four different zones and observed the shoreline, a brackish lagoon, a palo santo forest, and a tuff cone known as Cerro Dragon. We observed brightly-colored male land iguanas. They know the rainy season is coming, and they are ready for mating. We spotted a small baby land iguana (rarely seen), and some large males approached our guests. Our guests were shocked that they came so close and were so gentle.
After an Ecuadorian lunch, we took a Zodiac ride near the mangrove forest to look for baby sharks like hammerheads and blacktip sharks. We finished the day with a circumnavigation around Daphne Island during a majestic sunset.
