Boarding the pangas, we ventured out into the territory of desert whales with hopes of finding gray whale cows and their calves. Searching for blows, we found many adults and calves spread throughout the lagoon, some active the surface and playing in the surf, others rolling on their sides and sucking up mud. Many were overtaken with excitement every time the whales came close enough to see their white and gray bodies in the waters beside our boat. We soaked up every moment with these majestic creatures. What a privilege it is to have such an opportunity.
