On this last day of our expedition, we awoke right next to a beautiful tuff cone located at the very northern end of San Cristobal Island. The name of this remote place is Punta Pitt, one of the few places where red-footed boobies can be found.
We landed on a green sparkling sand beach made of a volcanic material called olivine. From there, we hiked along the slope of the impressive volcanic cone, where we found red-footed boobies, accompanied by blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds. The landscape was dramatic, with the eroded cone dotted with contrasting green and red vegetation. After the hike, we enjoyed the beach in the company of playful sea lions, which capped off a great morning.
In the afternoon, we visited another spectacular place in the Galapagos. The curiously named Wizard Hill was one of the first places visited by Charles Darwin in 1835. Next to the hill is a beautiful white sand beach, about one kilometer long, that we shared with sea lions and shore birds.
At the end of the day, we sailed very close to Kicker Rock, an eroded tuff cone about 250 feet high. Here, we toasted an amazing sunset with some tasty cocktails. A perfect farewell to this enchanted place.
