National Geographic Islander II anchored near Punta Vicente Roca this morning. We explored the island on a Zodiac tour along the coast. We looked for creatures that don’t live anywhere else on the planet, like the flightless cormorant and the Galapagos penguin, the world’s third smallest penguin. Pacific green sea turtles and Galapagos sea lions swam playfully just next to our Zodiacs, and we were surrounded by amazing geology. After the Zodiac tour, we prepared to jump in the water and explore the underwater world.
During the afternoon, we visited Fernandina Island. Fernandina is the youngest island in the archipelago, and it has an active volcano. We were surrounded by hundreds of marine iguanas, sea lions, and Sally Lightfoot crabs. What a wonderful place to end our day. We can’t wait for tomorrow’s exploration!
