Puerto Profundo opens into a series of narrows and fjords that run north from the Magellan Straits. We awoke there to damp skies with stark green and tan little islets scattered across the dark waters.

Our group had an opportunity to head to the lounge for a presentation by National Geographic Photo Expert Isai Madriz or head out on Zodiac cruises. The unpredictable Patagonian weather added an additional layer of adventure to our explorations, and all returned to National Geographic Explorer wet, but in good spirits to warm up with hot cocoa and tea.

The afternoon was spent transiting to tomorrow’s destination of Karukinka. Naturalist Maria Intxaustegi presented on the history of Magellan, and Javiera Constanzo gave a presentation about Karukinka Natural Park. It was an exciting morning and an informative afternoon enjoyed by our guests.
