Today we explored the Pacaya River, a place of immense diversity that is teeming with wildlife. Large flocks of birds like herons and cormorants gather along the river’s edge to hunt for the abundant food available here. The cecropia trees along the river are among the most prominent of the Amazon flora. They house hundreds of birds, and sometimes the amazing sloths as well. Different species of primates were spotted here by our eagle-eyed naturalists and skiff riders.

By the end of the expedition, we were invited to jump into the black waters of Yanayacu River. Pink dolphins accompanied us as we cooled off. What a fantastic way to end an extraordinary day of exploration within the soul of this sanctuary.
