Today we visited the Osa Peninsula, on the southwest coast of Costa Rica.
We landed on the Playa Blanca beach and from here our guests split into several smaller groups to experience a little of the culture of Costa Rica. Today we got a little taste of how the people of these very remote areas of Costa Rica make a living.
After landing by Zodiac, we had multiple choices: either visiting a sugarcane mill and trying some of the sweet product they make from it, visiting a heart of palm plantation to see them harvest it, prepare it, and try some of the local dishes made of it. We could also visit a family that grows chocolate, learn about its history and how it is processed from the pods on the trees all the way to the final product. We would also get to eat 100 % pure chocolate. We also had the opportunity to try our luck panning for gold. Or, we could hike a little more in a tropical rainforest.
It was a very interesting day indeed! In all of the places visited, the local people warmly welcomed us with big smiles and delicious homemade food.
Today was a great opportunity to learn about the beautiful people of Costa Rica.
