We awoke this morning to a glorious day as National Geographic Resolution made its way northwest towards the northern edge of Lancaster Sound and Devon Island. The skies were clear, the wind was brisk, and fulmars circled the ship. To the south the brilliant snow-covered mountains of Bylot Island loomed, and to the north Dundas Harbour awaited, our destination for the morning.
After a hearty lunch, we set out in our Zodiacs for our first expedition landing of the trip. The weather was perfect for our landing, cool with a light breeze that kept all the bugs at bay. It was exhilarating to see the vibrant life ashore.
During dinner, the ship sailed into the nearby Crocker Bay to look for wildlife, and once we finished eating, everyone gathered on the bridge to see what we could find. There were two beautiful glaciers, lots of icebergs, and birds whirling overhead. Soon the staff announced that both beluga whales and narwhals had been spotted close to the ship.
