We arrived at Andvord Bay early this morning and weaved our way among the icebergs towards Neko Harbour, our spectacular location for today’s off ship activities. Our bridge team parked National Geographic Resolution only a stone’s throw away from shore, allowing for an easy commute to our landing point. Greeted by the sights and sounds of a gentoo penguin colony, we headed ashore to hike through the snow, visit some courting penguins, and enjoy spectacular views of the nearby glacier. At the same time, we also explored the bay on Zodiac cruises to visit the gallery of icebergs and enjoy the porpoising penguins all around.

This afternoon we had a presentation by National Geographic Photographer Greg Winston entitled, “On Assignment for National Geographic”, as we slowly cruised south through the Gerlache Strait. Later, we sailed into the narrow Lemaire Channel, a remarkable place chock-a-block with ice and surrounded by towering mountains and hanging glaciers. A massive iceberg was stuck fast within the Lemaire Channel which forced us to turnaround, but as soon as we did, we spotted some killer whales! What an incredible experience!
