Our expedition kicked off in the best possible way. Humpback whales were breaching and blowing everywhere we looked. One curious mother and calf came toward the ship and gave us the show of a lifetime as they launched out of the water and waved their pectoral fins. The calf must grow enough on its mother’s milk before it can make the long journey to their feeding grounds in Antarctica. We also got to explore the magnificent, ancient, folded rocks at Nares Point, and we even caught sight of an elusive rock wallaby. It was a perfect Kimberley day.
