Our morning began with a navigation into the Wrangell Narrows. Just as we entered, killer whales were sighted ahead of the ship. We had excellent views of this group of approximately nine whales as they slowly cruised the shoreline. The birdlife, sea life, and swirling waters all made for a magnificent morning.
The town of Petersburg was our destination for the afternoon. Activities included flightseeing, hikes in the bog, bicycling, investigating the invertebrates living under the dock, and enjoying the hospitality of a small Alaskan town.
In the evening, we delighted in a delicacy from the sea: fresh Dungeness crab dipped in melted butter. It’s hard to find a better end to a day in Southeast Alaska.
