Today we entered majestic Misty Fjord National Monument. We passed rolling fjords filled with coniferous trees that had been carved by glaciers tens of thousands of years before. Guests were able to watch from the bow as we passed Dall’s porpoises in the glass calm waters. We enjoyed touching waterfalls from the expedition landing crafts and photographing massive fjord walls. Later, we enjoyed exploring this amazing area by kayak.

The undersea team simultaneously dove along the wall of the fjord and found spectacular sponges. They explored the underwater world to capture footage so they could bring what is below above. Who knows? Divers may have been swimming right under the guests’ kayaks.

The excitement ended with sunrise tequilas and a sunset off the bow. It was a classic first day in Alaska. We can’t wait to explore the Tongass National Forest and are looking forward to our upcoming week in Southeast Alaska.
