Welcome to Melaka (also known as Malacca) one of Malaysia’s most vibrant cities. We start our National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions “Journey through Southeast Asia”, ready to take in the exciting cultures and nature of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Today, National Geographic Orion anchored off the coast of Melaka and guests were given the opportunity to experience a river cruise through the city, witnessing the vibrant colors of old and modern homes and buildings along the riverside.
Upon disembarking the river cruise, guests were guided through the many highlights of Melaka on a walk that took in the history, culture, and energy of this new destination for us. We saw a replica of a Portuguese man-of-war ship which sank off the coast of Melaka, ancient ruins of a fortress, monuments dedicated to saints and discoverers, and a stroll along the city’s iconic walk. The Jonker Walk, with its very Southeast Asian color and flare, topped off with the ever-present trishaw embellished bicycles, a novel form of transportation parading through the streets with their glamour and blaring music.
Lindblad Expeditions is about sharing unique moments and experiences, and today was a perfect example of that.
Well done Lindblad Expeditions!!!
