We had an amazing experience today as National Geographic Orion slipped into the bay of Easo on Lifou Island in the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia. Guests were given a cultural greeting after arriving at a very impressive dock over a turquoise lagoon.

After the welcome, those keen to join were invited into the tribal chief’s hut, where traditional meetings are held to discuss village community issues and activities. A display of cultural food preparation was held, and our ship’s young guests learned to scrape coconuts and make coconut milk. Diving was of the essence, and dive masters Mike and Rachael explored the undersea world of Lifou with guests.

To top off the day, we enjoyed a brilliant sunset as we sailed away from this beautiful and unique island. Cheers!
