Morning mists create a mysterious seascape, as National Geographic Venture navigates amongst the icebergs in LeConte Bay. This ice has calved from the LeConte Glacier and worked its way down the fjord system to our location near the terminal morraine. Low tide has stranded bergs on the shoreline, an ideal scenario for ice sculpture exploration.

The afternoon is spent in Petersburg with activities from bogs to biking and hiking to hardware. The hardware store in town provides some insight into the community and its everyday needs, many of which are related to fishing.

The town’s roots are intertwined with the ice we visited this morning. This ice was collected and allowed for the shipment of salmon to Seattle to be sold on the fresh market for a better price.
