Today was a true day of exploration onboard National Geographic Resolution. We started our day at James Ross Island, with Zodiac cruises and kayaking. Some lazy crabeater seals rested on ice floes. Captain Martin and expedition leader Lucho explored a new landing site on the bay. The island is normally covered and surrounded by ice, so it was the first time we went to this location. There was a nice rocky beach, so maybe National Geographic Resolution will land next time.
After that, we completed a circumnavigation of Snow Hill Island. It was fascinating to navigate in new and uncharted waters. We navigated around the island at five knots, with an average depth of 100 meters. Thanks to our sonar, we avoided the shallows and huge icebergs surrounding us. Sadly, we did not spot any of the beautiful emperor penguins this time.
