In the morning, National Geographic Resolution arrived in a sheltered cove in Croft Bay on the northeast part of James Ross Island. With blue skies and a relatively comfortable temperature, what could be more tempting than going kayaking or roaming freely in the slopes onshore? Most of the guests chose to take advantage of both options. At the end of the morning, almost half of the guests went on to brave a polar plunge into the cold water of the Weddell Sea!
After lunch, we headed towards an Adélie penguin colony on Devil Island, located in a bay on the north side of Vega Island. Just before landing, we rounded Cape Well-met. This is a location of peculiar historical importance. In 1901-1904, Swedish geologist and geographer Otto Nordenskiöld led the Swedish Antarctic Expedition. Their aims were to survey the land on the northeastern side of Graham Land and to collect geological samples.
