Our last day on the Christmas expedition on board National Geographic Venture was not short on adventure and wildlife encounters.

We started our day with a pink sunrise illuminating the dramatic lines of the La Giganta Mountain Range. But we were not alone, as a pod of dolphins joined this perfect picture.

We marveled with the smallest critters of the tidal pools, and later in the day, we spent over 45 minutes cruising alongside the largest animal on our planet, the astonishing blue whale.

We navigated the golden triangle within the islands of Loreto National Park, an area known to be rich with wildlife. The very acrobatic Mobula rays greeted us, leaping and spinning out of the water. There is much debate about why they do it, and my favorite hypothesis is that it’s because they can…ergo, just for the fun of it!

Our Global Explorers also had a ton of fun learning to drive the Zodiacs, and they later got their certificate of completion at the end of a great, inspiring week. We wish them well in their future global exploring endeavors and adventures.
