This morning we followed the boardwalk up into Three Lakes Trail where our guests were able to choose from a variety of different hikes around the pristine state forest at Ideal Cove. A beautiful example of the rainforest in southeastern Alaska, the different walking groups were treated to several great wildlife encounters.
In the afternoon we motored into Petersburg Harbor where we were treated to a host of activities such as scenic flightseeing, hikes in the muskeg (a uniquely Alaskan ecosystem), interpretive walks on the dock among the fishing fleet, and a look around the charming town of Petersburg by foot or bicycle. The evening was topped with a Dungeness crab feast and just when we thought it was over for the day, a humpback whale showed up to give us a show against the backdrop of a sunset.
