Rain: steady, fresh, drenching rain. That was the weather that we awoke to on board National Geographic Sea Lion as we arrived in Haines on the northern end of the Lynn Canal. It was perfect temperate rainforest weather!
After breakfast, we departed the ship for various activities ashore. Some of us went fly fishing, others went on the Mt. Riley hike, and still others went on the Klukwan Village and Float Tour. There was an option to do a glacial fjord bicycle tour, while others took time to explore the town. In the afternoon, we had more optional excursions, which included another round of fly fishing, the glacial fjord bicycle tour, a shorter hike to Battery Point, or simply time to explore the quaint town.
We all returned to the ship in the late afternoon for cocktail hour, recap, and a crab feast dinner as the ship headed south. As darkness slowly dimmed Alaska’s Inside Passage, many of us thought about our wonderful day and the new adventures in store for us in this great land.
