Today was our last full day in the Galapagos, and we visited one of the most pristine islands of the archipelago, Genovesa Island. We arrived on Genovesa last night, entering through the only opening of the caldera where we anchored all day. In the morning, we woke up to thousands of birds flying above the ship and island, busy with their daily duties.
We first visited a site called Prince Philip’s Steps, home to short-eared owls. The owls feed on the storm petrels that nest on a volcanic rock, Plato. In the afternoon, we visited Darwin’s Bay, home to frigatebirds, swallow-tailed gulls, red-footed boobies, yellow-crowned night herons, Galapagos mockingbirds, and finches.
Today was another magical day in paradise. Although our guests will be leaving the Galapagos tomorrow, the Galapagos will never leave them!
