During the afternoon we approached Bonneville Lock and Dam, where the sun was setting and cast the hills of the gorge in silhouette as the picture shows. After moving through the lock we travelled by the waterfalls of the gorge and then proceeded on down the river.

The day started out cold and a little blustery, but by the afternoon the sky was clearing and sunny. The activities of the morning included a choice between visiting the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center or travelling to Parkdale, where the Hood River Railroad took us from the foothills of Mt. Hood to the town of Hood River.
