The crew helped to maximize our enjoyment of the lovely evening by moving the evening cocktails up to the upper sundeck. Here the naturalists told us about the history of the region and the geology of the mountains, while we relaxed and drank in the view.

Following a beautiful summer day in the small town of Haines, we set sail just before sunset down the still waters of the Lynn Canal, one of the many wide glacial fiords which divide the mountains and islands of Southeast Alaska. As we cruised south, the sun slowly disappeared behind the Chilkat Range to our west, and the peaks of the Chilkoot Range on the east side of the channel grew dusky purple with alpenglow.
