A Day at Sea

After a previous voyage on the transatlantic crossing from Portugal to Antigua, I’ve come to love these lazy days at sea aboard the majestic Sea Cloud II. Because most of the guests have just come off a full day of airplane travel, we’ve kept the schedule light allowing for naps, reading, and simply taking in the breathtaking sails. Our esteemed Captain Karlsson gave his introductory tour of the sails in the morning to give our gazing some direction. To conclude his lecture, the dramatic release of the fore course sail-- the lowest sail on the front mast-- never ceases to take my breath away in its grandeur and size.

Later on in the day, staff historian David Barnes gave a riveting talk on The Peopling of the Caribbean for those wanting a closer look at the Caribbean. Perhaps for some the highlight of the day was the beautiful sunset that dipped below the horizon just before 6pm. My view from the stern of the ship created the perfect opportunity for some picture taking, which many of the guests joined me in.

Tonight the Captain will host his welcome cocktail reception followed by a formal dinner where guests are invited to dress in their “smart casual” wear and enjoy a six course meal. Welcomed on the Lido deck with a glass of champagne by the Captain himself was certainly a regal way to dine. The evening melted away in good company, wonderful food with synchronized presentation; all in the exclusive style of the five star Sea Cloud II.
